Human Design Chart and Learning Library

This Human Design library pairs the site's free bodygraph calculator with a careful guide to the labels it returns. Enter a birth date, time, and place to see Type, Strategy, Authority, Profile, Definition, centres, gates, channels, and planetary activations in one chart. Human Design is a modern spiritual interpretation system, not a scientifically validated assessment of personality, health, compatibility, or decision quality.

What the bodygraph calculates

The free Human Design chart converts the birth moment and location into planetary positions, maps those positions to the system's 64 gates, and also calculates a second set of pre-birth design activations. The resulting bodygraph displays nine centres connected by possible channels. A centre is shown as defined when the required gate connections complete a channel under the calculator's rules; otherwise it is open or undefined. These graphics are system-specific symbolic mappings, not measurements of the body's organs or nervous system.

Human Design was introduced in the late twentieth century by Ra Uru Hu and combines concepts drawn from astrology, the I Ching, Kabbalah, and a nine-centre model related to chakra traditions. Those sources have their own histories and should not be treated as if they always formed one ancient system. The chart is best understood as a modern synthesis with its own vocabulary.

Read the hierarchy before the details

Type is the broadest category. The calculator may return Generator, Manifesting Generator, Projector, Manifestor, or Reflector, based on the pattern of defined centres and motor connections. Strategy is the behavioural guideline attached to that Type within Human Design. Authority is the system's proposed way of noticing an internal decision signal, such as emotional, sacral, splenic, ego, self-projected, environmental, or lunar authority depending on the chart. These labels describe the system's interpretation; they should never overrule consent, evidence, professional advice, or basic safety.

Profile combines two line numbers derived from personality and design Sun and Earth placements. Definition describes how defined areas connect within the graph. Gates identify individual activations, while a channel requires both of its gates and links two centres. Reading an isolated gate without checking its line, planetary activation, opposite gate, centre, and any completed channel removes much of the chart context. Start with Type, Strategy, and Authority, then use Profile and Definition, and only then move into gates and channels.

Inputs, uncertainty, and comparison

Birth time can change faster-moving placements and may alter gates, lines, or the resulting bodygraph near a boundary. Use a recorded time when possible and keep the time zone and location consistent. The birth-time accuracy guide was written for astrology, but its central warning also applies here: do not present a time-sensitive result as exact when the source time is approximate. The site's methodology page explains the general handling of birth inputs and interpretation boundaries.

If two calculators disagree, first compare the local birth time, time-zone conversion, coordinates, and whether daylight-saving time was handled for that date. Then compare the displayed planetary activations rather than only the final Type label. The beginner's guide to Human Design gives a broader orientation before you interpret a complete bodygraph. Keep notes about which chart settings and birth-time source you used so the result can be reproduced.

Compare Type, Authority, and Profile

The Type, Authority, and Profile guide keeps known chart labels separate, rejects impossible type-authority combinations, and links back to the bodygraph for a birth-time check.

Frequently asked questions

What do I need to calculate a Human Design chart?

Use a birth date, local birth time, and birth place. The location and date are needed to resolve the time zone, while the time affects the planetary positions mapped into gates and lines.

What should I read first in a Human Design chart?

Start with Type, Strategy, and Authority. Then read Profile and Definition before examining individual centres, gates, channels, and planetary activations, because the smaller elements depend on the larger bodygraph context.

Is Human Design scientifically validated?

No. Human Design is a modern spiritual interpretation system, and its claims about energy, personality, and decision-making are not scientifically validated. Use it for reflection rather than diagnosis or professional advice.
